In the words made famous by Dinah Washington…What a difference a day makes! As everyone gears up for summer events throughout the Bay Area, we noticed (and you did too) that Gospel was missing throughout the updates and announcements for the 2013 Oakland Art and Soul Festival.
The Edwin/Walter Hawkins Stage has been one of the standing room only stages, drawing cultural and generational diversity from festival attendees. So imagine our shock while reading a text message (May) confirming the decision to cancel this years gospel stage.
Well I’m glad good news, bad news, and plain old news period (lol) knows how to find its way to my phone. Because, as of today, it looks like the Gospel Stage is back on!

Plans are in motion to ensure there will be Gospel at the 2013 Oakland’s Art and Soul Festival…but expect some changes. Not sure if it will remain its own stage, or fit into a time-slot on another stage…and there’s still no mention of it on the re-designed website.

Crazy how today is the 3rd Anniversary of Bishop Walter L. Hawkins’ passing. Clearly he’s still up there working things out on our behalf. RIP Bishop!
