It has been a major\, and divisive\, theme of national politics. \nHalfway through the first 100 days of Trump’s presidency\, join us for an engaging weekend of workshops\, worship\, direct action\, and community building. The conference will emphasize practical skills\, timely resources\, and a deeper analysis of the critical issues facing us at this moment. She was appointed to the Ferguson Commission by Governor Jay Nixon and to the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships for the White House by President Barack H. Obama. He has performed on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and the Hip Hop Awards on BET Network. He is an artist focused on caring for people\, providing messages of hope and inspiration. Woodson founded the celebration he called “Negro History Week” in 1926. Dr. Woodson selected the second week of February for the celebration because it fell between the birthdays of the famed orator and abolitionist Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln. In 1976\, the celebration expanded to include the entire month of February. Today\, Black History Month is celebrated across the United States by people of all ethnic and social backgrounds. At Pacific\, it is observed during a monthlong celebration in February organized by Pacific’s Black History Month Planning Committee.

Taylor provides penetrating insight into the early makings of the black church in the Bay Area. With attention to detail\, Taylor captures the joys\, frustrations\, and unity of black people who left the segregated Deep South\, came to the Bay Area seeking freedom only to face similar adversities of segregation\, racism\, housing discrimination\, KKK threats of violence\, and other socio-political barriers. Remarkably\, these early pioneers brought their culture\, traditions\, and experiences from the South and built a strong vibrant religious community. From Labor to Reward speaks for the legacy of African Americans who were gospel social activists using the church as the anchor. Multiple sources of research and interviews were gathered from church records\, newspaper clippings\, and other written sources to tell this unknown story. \nRev. Dr. Martha C. Taylor is the Historian for the Progressive National Baptist Convention\, Inc. and church historian for the historic Allen Temple Baptist Church\, Oakland\, California. She has served as adjunct professor for the San Francisco Theological Seminary\, Graduate Theological Union\, Berkeley\, Doctor of Ministry and Masters of Divinity programs. Taylor is dually ordained as an American Baptist and Presbyterian Minister. She resides in Oakland\, California.

He has performed on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and the Hip Hop Awards on BET Network. He is an artist focused on caring for people\, providing messages of hope and inspiration. Woodson founded the celebration he called “Negro History Week” in 1926. Dr. Woodson selected the second week of February for the celebration because it fell between the birthdays of the famed orator and abolitionist Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln. In 1976\, the celebration expanded to include the entire month of February. Today\, Black History Month is celebrated across the United States by people of all ethnic and social backgrounds. At Pacific\, it is observed during a monthlong celebration in February organized by Pacific’s Black History Month Planning Committee.

DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Black History Month\, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir pays homage to traditional spirituals and black gospel music\, under the direction of Terrance Kelly. The choir will be joined by Henrietta Davis\, Jackie Tolbert\, and the McGuillicutty sisters and will be honoring bay area legends The Oakland Gospelettes. \nThe Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir delivers good news – the power and glory of 55 talented singers blending their voices together in rapturous harmony on gospel standards\, traditional spirituals\, and their own original praise songs. The East Bay Express has described the harmonies on their most recent album\, Hear My Prayer\, as “absolutely divine\,” and the live version\, with the vibrations of all those gorgeous voices filling the Freight\, is even more inspiring. \nThe OIGC grew out of a gospel music workshop at Jazz Camp West in 1986. Terrance Kelly led the workshop and has served as artistic director of the choir ever since. The son of esteemed jazz pianist Ed Kelly and gospel choir director Faye Kelly\, Terrence is an Emmy-winning director\, composer\, and arranger\, as well as a popular soloist with what allaboutjazz.com calls “an operatic range and a joyous emotional feel.” Under his leadership\, the choir has recorded with such artists as Linda Ronstadt\, Peter Gabriel\, MC Hammer\, Tramaine Hawkins\, and the Kronos Quartet\, performed onstage with a number of notable musicians including Stan Getz\, Carlos Santana\, and Joan Baez\, and appeared on three Grammy-winning albums. DESCRIPTION:The Annual Back-To-School Shoe Giveaway “Put Your Best Foot Forward” returns on Saturday\, September 17\, 2016 at Oracle Arena and Oakland Alameda Coliseum\n\nFAME\, in partnership with Oracle Arena and Oakland Alameda Coliseum\, will provide free new shoes to 2\,500 low-income K-12th grade students across Alameda County. 5\,000 attendees will receive resources from a wealth of community and non-profit organizations on healthy lifestyle\, wellness programs\, screening & vaccinations\, prizes\, music\, games and lunch. Over the past 19 years\, FAME has distributed over 15\,000 shoes to students returning to school.\n\nLast year\, 2\,250 free new pairs of shoes were distributed to low- income K-12th grade students across Alameda County. 5\,000 people enjoyed a safe afternoon filled with community and health resources as well as family oriented activities. This year\, we plan to distribute 2\,500 free new pairs of shoes and backpacks\, along with other surprises to deserving students.
