University of the Pacific – 2017 Black History Month Celebration
University of the Pacific's annual Black History Month celebration involves a number of activities that honor the history and heritage of African-Americans and the African Diaspora. We are proud to announce our 2017 BHM Keynote Speaker is LECRAE, two-time GRAMMY Award-winning hip-hop artist and author of the autobiography, Unashamed. Lecrae has sold 1.7 million albums to date, including his latest Anomaly, that debuted on the Billboard 200 Album Chart at No. 1. He has performed on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and the Hip Hop Awards on BET Network. He is an artist focused on caring for people, providing messages of hope and inspiration. He feels, "Music doesn't need to be categorized. It just needs to be good." On Feb. 10, 2017, he will provide some of that good music and provide a lecture revealing how he has overcome the challenges in his life and is impacting an entire generation-building community one person at a time. Rev. Traci Blackmon – Healing Communities on the Frontlines of Ferguson

Reverend Blackmon's signature initiatives have included Healthy Mind, Body, and Spirit, a mobile faith-based outreach program she designed to impact health outcomes in impoverished areas. Rev. Blackmon's communal leadership and work in the aftermath of the killing of Michael Brown, Jr., in Ferguson, MO has gained her both national and international recognition and audiences from the White House to the Carter Center to the Vatican. She was appointed to the Ferguson Commission by Governor Jay Nixon and to the President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships for the White House by President Barack H. Obama. This year, Rev. Blackmon co-authored the newly released White Privilege curriculum through the United Church of Christ. Reverend Traci Blackmon is the Acting Executive Minister of Justice & Witness Ministries of The United Church of Christ and Senior Pastor of Christ The King United Church of Christ in Florissant, MO. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Birmingham - Southern College (1985), and a Master of Divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary(2009).
