SUMMARY:We Run Oakland: For Our Children
DESCRIPTION:Announcement \nCan’t stop\, won’t stop! While COVID19 has required us to make some changes\, we refuse for it to halt our cause. So guess what?! We are going virtual!!! Join DO & A Sista’s Touch for our 3rd annual charity 5K to raise Human Trafficking Awareness. Although we will not be able to be in person\, we are committed to maintaining the same experience of community\, awareness\, and inspiration. \nWhat’s a Virtual 5k \nTo ensure your safety and to practice social distancing\, you get to choose where and how you participate in the 5k/3.25 mile distance. You can stay indoors (treadmill/stationary bike) or you can map out the distance in your neighborhood or another safe open space. You can run\, walk\, or ride a bike\, whatever your pleasure; we just want you to share space with us to show solidarity in the effort to stop human trafficking. On September 19th\, we will start at 9am with a Live kick off . If you can’t make the 19th\, don’t worry\, the kick off will be recorded. Once you finish your physical activity\, enter your results so you can be added to our results board. You will have until July 26th to enter your numbers. Just like that you will have supported local nonprofit organizations that provide services to those impacted by human trafficking\, supported AST programming\, physically challenged yourself\, and increased your knowledge on how you can help in the fight to stop human trafficking. \nThe Cause –\nSTOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING! \nAs we continue our mission to cultivate Black Excellence through the inspirations of African American women\, it is important that we also do the work to ensure our children are healthy and whole. Taking on the role of advocate in the community\, this civic engagement event provides us the opportunity to assist in the efforts of mitigating the perils of human trafficking; which is unfortunately impacting the African American community in the Oakland/Bay Area. \nThe We Run Oakland: For Our Children series is an annual family/community event designed to focus on our collective responsibility to STOP human trafficking. Through the partnerships of local organizations\, the main goal is to bridge the gap between community\, resources\, and self-care. We hope you will join us in our effort to educate the community in understanding the vastness of this epidemic on a local level\, and demonstrate how the collective can make incremental changes to achieve positive outcomes. \nWith the core of AST’s mission to empower African American women across all generations\, the goal of the inaugural We Run Oakland: For Our Daughters was to increase community awareness on human trafficking for the safety of our daughters; especially since the largest population of those affected are Black girls and women. On our journey to learn from and engage with the local community based partners who provide services to those impacted by human trafficking\, we learned the efforts to support survivors is significant\, but the commitment to conquer the demand is much more consequential. \nThrough this realization\, the goal of the 3rd annual charity 5k event\, We Run Oakland: For Our Children is to continue the community push in understanding the vastness of this epidemic on a local level and understand how we as a collective can influence incremental change to achieve positive outcomes. This year\, our goal is to increase awareness through the emphasis of teaching RESPECT between “him” & “her”; to teach our daughters AND our sons of the perils of human trafficking. \nWe Run Oakland: For Our Children will highlight the importance of Our Children in:\n1. Learning how to RESPECT themselves through the development of self-love and self-confidence;\n2. Understanding how to treat their Brutha and Sista with RESPECT through the elimination of exploitation.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for HEALING BLACK LIVES\, a day of healing specifically for people of the African diaspora. In this time of physical distancing\, we are offering a modified retreat via Zoom’s online video platform. \nDuring these tumultuous times\, many of us are bombarded with images and reports that Black community will be most heavily impacted by this current public health threat which is perpetuated by structural racism\, classism and other marginalization. Witnessing the current impact on ourselves\, our loved ones\, and communities carries physical and spiritual weight. \nGather in sacred (virtual) community affirming that OUR BLACK LIVES MATTER. \nFacilitated by: Rev. Kamal Hassan & Xan West\, the retreat includes: \n\nPractices for sustainability\, resilience\, and spiritual well-being\nCommunity connection and support\nFinding strength in ourselves and one another\nSharing hopes and visions\n\nPREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED so we can send you the information to securely access Zoom. SUMMARY:Earth Day 2020: Black\, Green & Traumatized
DESCRIPTION:Environmental trauma has lasting and catastrophic impacts on our community. To address this reality\, the Center for Food Faith and Justice has joined forces with Green The Church\, Seeds for Peace and the Black Church Food Security Network on Earth Day April 22nd @ 3pm PT/6pm ET\, to host a “Black\, Green & Traumatized” webinar. \nAll are impacted by COVID-19\, but not equally. The facts are that African Americans are dying at higher rates from this deadly virus than other races. Largely because Black communities face a disproportionate burden of environmental toxins because of where they live\, work and worship.  African Americans often appear marginalized in a system that values the natural world while devaluing Black and Brown bodies as part of the created order. This discussion will address the intersection of environmental justice and mental health in the African American community and solutions toward avenues of equity in this era of COVID-19 and climate justice. \nRegister Today: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_xAL8ZFbBSEuh8kVKMULxjg

SUMMARY:Earth Day Webinar: When White Folks Catch A Cold - A Black Church Huddle on Health & Environmental Justice

These scenarios are not new\, but how they relate to environmental justice is not always clear. \nJoin members of the Black Church community on Wednesday\, April 22\, 2020 – Earth Day – for a conversation designed to inform and ignite action to address the current and coming challenges facing the African American community. \nFeaturing: \n\nSha’Von Terrell\, MCRP\nDr. John Kinney\nDr. LaShauna Austria\nRev.
