Babies run barefoot through tent cities.  At the same time\, median rent for a one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco has risen to $3\,600.  On January 20th\, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.\, noted Bay Area’s grassroots leaders will host a protest rally at the Oakland City Church to highlight this issue. \nCome\, hear some of the Bay Area’s most prominent voices on the issue of housing justice. \n\nTongo Eisen-Martin\, poet\, movement worker\, and educator\nCandice Elder\, Founder and CEO of East Oakland Collective\nBenjamin Bar Sierra\, professor at City College of San Francisco\, and San Francisco Mission District activist\nDr. Cesar Cruz\, Founder and Director of Homies Empowerment\nLisa “Tiny” Gray-Garcia\, Founder of Poor News\, revolutionary lecturer\, journalist\, poet and organizer\nNita B\, organizer of the Bay Area Intifada and spokesperson for the Village\nAquiela  M. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, February 1st\, 9:30am – 2:30pm\, the African American Family Outreach Project will host its free informational workshop “YOU ARE NOT ALONE\,” for African American families who seek support and care for those who are living with mental illness and/or addicted to drugs or alcohol with an opportunity to talk with several mental health professionals. \nOpen to the community\, the “You Are Not Alone” workshop is open to the entire community and will take place at the Charles Porter Golden Gate Recreation Center\, 1075 62nd Street\, Oakland\, CA. \nFamily members with lived experience say “when mental illness or substance abuse hit our loved ones\, we did not know where to turn. In these workshops\, we’re actually able to talk with the managing psychiatrist for Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services and get answers! It’s made a huge difference.” \nTime will be offered for individuals to discuss symptoms\, causes and medications with a Alameda County psychiatrist Aaron Chapman – an expert in dealing with drug and alcohol problems and advice from experienced family members who are willing to help. \nLunch is provided free of charge. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 21\, 9:30am – 2:30pm\, the African American Family Outreach Project will continue hosting its free informational workshop series “YOU ARE NOT ALONE.”  This workshop is particularly designed for African American families who support and care for individuals who are living with mental illness and/or addicted to drugs or alcohol with opportunities to talk with several mental health professionals. \nRSVP: http://youarenotalone2020.eventbrite.com \nFamily members with lived experience say “when mental illness or substance abuse hit our loved ones\, we did not know where to turn. In these workshops\, we’re actually able to talk with the managing psychiatrist for Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services and get answers! It’s made a huge difference.” \nTime will be offered for individuals to discuss symptoms\, causes and medications with a psychiatrist; an expert in dealing with drug and alcohol problems and advice from experienced family members who are willing to help. \nLunch is provided free of charge.
