DESCRIPTION:San Francisco’s grandest Easter morning tradition gets under way at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday\, April 21\, 2019: the annual Sunrise Service at Mount Davidson Cross. This year’s citywide celebration atop the City’s highest peak marks the 98th anniversary of the event.\n \n\nCommunity leaders taking part in the non-denominational city-wide celebration at the foot of America’s largest cross include Rev. Jeff Mammen of New Life Church\, Robert Burns of Christian Counseling Center\, Pastor Alex Cabansagan of Family Christian Fellowship\, Rev. Seng Chin of Church of Christ\, and San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White. The program will also feature music by the Salvation Army Brass Ensemble and Lynne Miller of The House of Bagpipes. Admission is free. \nSituated at the summit of Mt. Davidson (elevation 938 ft.)\, the historic 103-foot-tall cross will be illuminated by spotlights throughout Saturday evening April 20th\, shining as a beacon for Easter morning pilgrims (Note: great location shot at the corner of Robinhood Way and Lansdale Avenue on Saturday night). \nSpecial bus service on Muni’s 36 line begins at 5:30 a.m. and runs every 15 minutes from Forest Hill Station to the park gate located at the intersection of Lansdale Avenue\, Myra Drive and Dalewood Way – two blocks south of Portola Drive. The trail beginning at the park entrance across from 39 Dalewood Way affords the easiest route to the top. \nSponsored by local churches and broadcast nationally in years past\, the Easter Sunrise Service attendance record was set during World War II\, with an estimated 50\,000 worshippers in attendance. \nOriginally dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in a transcontinental ceremony in 1934\, the 103-foot-tall Mt. Davidson Cross has been restored by the Council of Armenian-American Organizations of Northern California\, owners of the monument. \nWith the sun rising over the East Bay hills\, Mt. Davidson Park’s beautiful forest setting serves as a spectacular backdrop for this cherished Easter event. Adding to the visual appeal of the panoramic view of San Francisco Bay and the downtown skyline at dawn is the dazzling springtime array of wildflowers currently in bloom. \nThose planning to attend Easter Sunrise 2019 are advised to dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes for the short walk to the summit. In these workshops\, we’re actually able to talk with the managing psychiatrist for Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services and get answers! It’s made a huge difference.”\n\nInterim Director of Alameda County Behavioral Health Services\, Carol Burton\, will attend the meeting and wants to hear families’ concerns and comments.\n\nTime will be offered for individuals to discuss symptoms\, causes and medications with a psychiatrist; an expert in dealing with drug and alcohol problems and advice from experienced family members who are willing to help.\n\nLunch is provided free of charge. DESCRIPTION:Human trafficking continues to be one of the major human right abuses today. According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline\, in 2018 California has the most reported human trafficking cases in the United States. The 3rd Human Trafficking in San Francisco Report noted that most individuals recruited in California had their initial trafficking experience in San Francisco or Alameda County. Human trafficking is not a victimless crime. \nThe Baptist Ministers Union of Oakland Women’s Ministry recognizes that it takes a village to eradicate this abuse of human dignity and well-being. On Saturday\, April 27\, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. the BMU Women’s Ministry will host “Not our Daughter” Brunch. We are taking a stand against human trafficking while reclaiming\, revitalizing and restoring our sisters. During the brunch there will be a special screening of Surviving International Boulevard. A documentary by filmmaker Sian Gowen which reveals the complex reality of domestic child sex trafficking through the experiences of two local women from Oakland\, California. Many other exciting activities are planned for this special event. \nFunds from ticket sales will assist several local organizations that are working with survivors of human trafficking. These organizations include ROYLS\, INC founded by Virginia Arnold and Jamar Kirton and Serenity House which was founded by the late Johnnia Davis.
