This event is featuring special guest and keynote speaker, Sharon Cooper, who is a Community Activist and sister to Sandra Bland. Sharon speaks on her life, legacy and HBO's "Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland". Please join Bishop Bob Jackson, the Acts Full Gospel Church, and the Oakland community for a celebration and parade on Martin Luther King Junior Day, Monday, January 20, 2020, from 9:30AM to 2PM. Festivities will include food and clothes give away, a children’s play zone, guest speakers, community leaders, music, and lots more. Everything is FREE. The Parade will begin and end at Verdese Carter Park, 98th Ave. And Bancroft Street in Oakland with a Celebration ceremony. Poetry, Prayers, Protest Against Gentrification And Displacement Planned For MLK Day   The plight of the unhoused in the San Francisco Bay Area has reached catastrophic proportions in recent years.  Homeless shelters are filled to capacity.  Children sleep in the back seats of abandoned cars. Babies run barefoot through tent cities.  At the same time, median rent for a one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco has risen to $3,600.  On January 20th, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., noted Bay Area’s grassroots leaders will host a protest rally at the Oakland City Church to highlight this issue. Come, hear some of the Bay Area’s most prominent voices on the issue of housing justice.
