    A Refreshing Night of Worship

    Malimusic

Friday, April 29th, 2011, the Refresh After Hours Concert event was held at the Oakland Convention Center (an annex of the Oakland Marriott Hotel). The musical event came as an installment of the Recharge 2011 California State Youth Convention held by the California District Council Pentecostal Young Peoples Union (CDPYPU). Lead by State Youth President, Christopher Foster, several ministries from across the state were represented by their respective leaders and members.

Hosted by popular comedian J-Red Walton, music ministries included the Chainbreakers (Ministry Without Walls) Praise & Worship Team, led by Minister Jeremy Gibson, the Ladies Of Harmony, who brought renditions of “Chasing After You” (original by Bishop Paul S. Morton) and “Blessed & Highly Favored” (original by The Clark Sisters),  gospel-saxophonist Kevin Moore, gospel hip-hop/rap artist k.TWO, performing his single “Shut Him Down”, Kenya Boyd, Derrick Hall & Company, featuring Robin Hodge-Williams, and the praise-dance ministries of Destined 2 Dance and Sons Of Thunder, with choreography set to Marvin Sapp’s “Flow” (from the album Thirsty).

The featured guest of night, Jamaal “Mali Music” Pollard rendered selections from his smash release “The 2econd Coming” (Soundwalk Music Group/ Dedicated Music Group). The contemporary, christian artist displayed his musical versatility and passion to convey powerful messages on songs like “The Light”, “I Hate You”, an up-tempo song rebuking the devil’s antics, and the euphoric worship piece “Yahweh”.

When asked about his steadily increasing fame and exposure, the young inspirational pioneer had this to say, “It’s been amazing…initially overwhelming, but I am focused on completing the plan that God has set for me of getting his message out.”

With two new singles, “Deep Blood Red” and “Mercy Lord”, and what is sure to be an intense itinerary within upcoming months, Mali remains optimistic about the national platform that God has given him to spread the gospel, “I’m grateful that I will get the opportunity to minister in mainstream radio and television markets. The messages and music are reaching major networks like BET (Black Entertainment Television), Centric, and on shows like “106 & Park”. Mali is undoubtedly dedicated to the mission.
