    Tis The Season: Local Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies

    There’s something about kicking off the Christmas Season with lights! Lights and the lighting of candles have a recurring presence throughout the faith traditions of DiwaliHanukkah, and Christmas (Advent). If you’re like me, and enjoy Advent Season with a touch of colorful bobbles and lights – here are a few festivities to get you going!

    2012 Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies & Parade:

    BERKELEY – Downtown Berkeley Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration
    Friday, November 30, 2012 :: 5:30PM – 7:30PM
    Downtown BART Plaza – Enjoy cookies and hot chocolate, listen to holiday music sung by UC Berkeley a cappella groups, and join the Mayor in lighting the holiday tree in the heart of Downtown Berkeley.

    OAKLAND – Jack London Square Lights Up for the Holidays
    Friday, November 30, 2012 :: 5PM – 7PM
    Jack London Square – Come experience the Square’s yearly holiday transformation during its annual tree lighting celebration complete with grazing reindeer and live musical performances.

    OAKLAND – America’s Children’s Holiday Parade
    Saturday, December 1, 2012 @ 2:00 PM
    Downtown Oakland on Broadway from 11th to 20th Street
    Now in its 13th year, America’s Children’s Holiday Parade in Oakland has become Northern California’s premier family event. The ooh’s and ahh’s of more than 100,000 spectators thrill the parade participants and provide a heartfelt warm-up for the arrival of Santa Claus in the parade’s finale. 

    SAN FRANCISCO – World Tree of Hope Tree Lighting & Party
    Tuesday, December 4, 2012 :: 5:30PM – 8PM
    San Francisco City Hall  – Honorable Mayor Ed Lee, First Lady Anita Lee and Rainbow World Fund invite you to the 7th Annual World Tree of Hope Official Tree Lighting Celebration. 

    OAKLAND – Holiday Weekend Fun on Lakeshore
    Friday December 16th :: 5 – 7 PM & Saturday Dec. 17th :: 3 – 5 PM
    Lakeshore & LakePark Avenues
