New Life Community Church (NLCC) is gearing up for their first summer sports camp for children, June 24-27, at Bushrod Park in Oakland. Children ages 5-12 years old will be able to improve their basketball and baseball skills, meet new friends, and get active in the process.
Summer is here, and many parents are scrambling to find activities where their children can have fun outside in a positive environment. With the scripture from Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” as the camp theme, NLCC is offering a three day athletic camp that will focus on building confidence and strengthening leadership skills, while also imparting the spiritual aspect of achieving success with the help of God.
Pastor Darnell Hammock, the leader and founder of NLCC, has been on a mission to “Impact Oakland” since the inception of the church in January 2013. Affectionately nicknamed Pastor Smoke, he has led the church in donating hundreds of children’s books during 2012’s Berkeley Juneteenth Festival and the upcoming Temescal Street Fair in July. Academic scholarships and other community assistance from the church are in the works. The “I Can Do All Things” Sports Camp is another avenue to impact the city with the love of Jesus Christ. It is free to all children, lunch will be provided each day, and participants will be given a free sports camp T-shirt.
The sports camp will be held June 24-26, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 560-59th Avenue in Oakland. For registration information, contact Camp Director, Jennifer Hammock at 510-550-3858 or log on to http://impactoakland.org/events.php
