O God, as a fresh new wind blows across your creation and people of all faiths stand together to voice their concern about the direction of a society gone mad, a society consumed with and controlled by greed and a society that is riding roughshod over the poor, we pray for your anointing upon those who Occupy Oakland. Give them the courage to continue to say NO to the demonic and YES to your will.
It is your will that every child on this planet have food and never go to bed hungry. It is your will that every human being have access to quality education, a living wage, shelter for themselves and their families and adequate healthcare.
That is what those who Occupy Oakland desire. That is why they stand in unity to defy “the powers that be” which set themselves up in opposition to your will to get rich and to get theirs (while caring less about those in need who do not have the basic necessities of life).
Pour out your Spirit upon them as your poured it out in Jerusalem (in Acts 2) and create a new “church” to turn this world upside down. Let your “new church” be made up of Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims,Buddhists, people of all faiths and people of no faith (in so-called “organized religion”).
May the many voices with which they speak cause a cacophony of harmony for the human community which encourages the weak to stand together against police aggression and militarism. May the military veterans who join Occupy Oakland join not just because of their wounded and fallen Marine brother. May they join because of the righteousness of this cause — a crusade to end the tyranny of the 1%; and may all who Occupy Oakland find Peace in the Just Cause which they espouse.
In the name of G-d who created us all and who loves us all…..
