Love Center Ministries, Inc. founded by Bishop Walter L. Hawkins in 1971 has been in the Oakland community for 40 years. This ministry has brought national and international distinction to the city of Oakland through its Love Alive albums.
The first of these albums was Love Alive, followed by Love Alive II, then Love Alive III, which stayed on the billboard charts for 34 weeks; Then there was Love Alive IV and in 1995 Love Alive V. Next year June 2013, in Las Vegas they will record the first half of Love Alive VI.
Love Center’s tremendous music ministry prompted former Mayor of Oakland, Elihu Harris to commission Reverend Hawkins to write an anthem for the City of Oakland. The anthem “Oakland Homeland” debuted to an enthusiastic and responsive audience during a Unity Rally in Los Angeles, California. The music ministry remains a dynamic and anointed part of the Love Center Church, drawing people from across the country and around the world to experience the life changing gospel message through music.
The Love Center Ministry has been through many trials and tribulation during its forty years but with God’s help has managed to weather the storms that have come their way. With their open door, who so ever will policy; they teach what the Bible teaches in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but they shall have everlasting life”. This verse clearly reveals to them that God’s love is wide enough to embrace ALL people.
