Lady Ana Jo Thompson and the Thompson Family
For more than 67 years, Pastor Thompson has been on the battlefield devoting his life in service to God and God’s people. Delivering his first sermon entitled “Come See A Man” at the age of sixteen, he continued to proclaim that lifelong message pointing thousands of men, women, boys, and girls towards Jesus, the Christ.
Known nationally as a prolific Preacher and Teacher, Dr. Thompson pastored locally at the Solomon Temple Baptist Church, Pittsburg, CA and retired after serving 40 years as Pastor, Berkeley Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Berkeley, CA. Continuing to fight the good fight of faith, he recently served as the Interim Pastor, Bethany Baptist Church, Oakland, CA.
As a leader, Dr. M. T. Thompson served the community in numerous capacities. He was the first African-American to serve on the Contra Costa Housing Authority. He also served as President of the Baptist Ministers Union of Oakland Vicinities and was responsible for ensuring the first Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday was celebrated throughout the Bay Area.
Thank you for the outpouring of support and prayers we have received thus far. And while we mourn, we do so not as people without hope. For in the time of trouble we know our God shall hide us in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide us; he shall set us up upon a rock.
We solicit your continued prayers as we trust in the God we serve to carry us through during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, cards and condolences should be sent to:
Lady Ana Jo Thompson, P.O. Box 168, Brentwood, CA 94513
Our condolences and prayers remain with the Thompson Family and all touched by the life of Dr. M.T. Thompson.
