Charity Auction on eBay for Lunch with Warren Buffett Runs June 6 – 11
San Francisco’s Glide Foundation is pleased to announce that legendary investor Warren Buffett will once again dine with the winning bidder of his annual charity auction on eBay. The auction will benefit Glide, which has served the poor for 45 years.
“When you get a proven quantity like Glide, and you get the people running it who you watch do it for 40 years and do it magnificently, they are the ones, in my view, to support.”
Since the auction began in 1999, winning bids have ranged from $25,000 to more than $2.1 million for the chance to dine with Buffett. Bidding for this year’s charity auction runs June 6 at 7:30 p.m. PDT through June 11 at 7:30 p.m. PDT.
“We are extremely grateful to Mr. Buffett for his generosity in supporting Glide’s efforts to feed and support the poor and marginalized,” said Reverend Cecil Williams, Glide’s founder.
“You really want to make your charitable dollar go as far as it can,” Mr. Buffett told Bloomberg Television this year. “When you get a proven quantity like Glide, and you get the people running it who you watch do it for 40 years and do it magnificently, they are the ones, in my view, to support.”
The winning bidder and seven friends will join Buffett for lunch at Smith & Wollensky in New York City. Bidding starts at $25,000 and all bidders must pre-qualify through Kompolt, specialists in Cause Branded Social Media. To pre-qualify, visit: www.GlideLunchWithWarrenBuffett.com.
The lunch will be listed on eBay Giving Works at www.GlideLunchWithWarrenBuffett.com. The eBay Giving Works program harnesses the power of eBay’s 90 million active community members by empowering them to buy and sell items that support their favorite nonprofits. The program has raised about $191 million total global funds to date; $55 million globally in 2009 alone. Alan Stillman, founder of Smith & Wollensky, donated $10,000 to Glide for the privilege of hosting the lunch.
Located in the Tenderloin, one of San Francisco’s harshest urban environments, Glide has served the poor and disenfranchised for 45 years. From serving nearly one million meals annually, to operating a medical clinic and providing affordable housing, youth job training, weekly spiritual celebrations at Glide Church, and more – Glide touches the lives of many people.
