March Music Madness: Spotlight on Vanessa Murphy

    Vmurphy

For the month of March, Faith in The Bay is celebrating great recording artists, musicians, and producers from the Bay Area.
I love “old school” gospel music. It keeps me grounded in my faith. Vanessa Murphy, is one particular local artist that stays true to her Gospel music’s roots.
“Singing The Old Time Way” is the first release from Vanessa Murphy, and is a great buy if you truly love old-fashioned, foot-stomping, hand-clapping gospel music.

Originally from Oakland, Vanessa began singing at the age of four. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 9 and has been actively involved in church since that time. She began singing with her Mom, Doris Murphy, at her father’s church, The Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Berkeley, California. She soon began to lead songs as a student with The Castleleers, under the direction of Phillip Reeder, and also while attending The College of Alameda and San Francisco State.

Vanessa later organized a Gospel Community Choir at the Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church that truly enhanced the service. She is also a outstanding Organist / keyboardist. Vanessa feels guided by the holy spirit and finds joy in singing for God only. Vanessa has been able to reach people, helping them to reach decisions in their iives living for christ. Vanessa Quotes, I once was lost, but now i’m found, blind but now i see!!! Vanessa says of her singing, ” I pray that singing will be a blessing to someone’s life, inspiring them to become a artist or a Spokesperson for the Lord” Because only what you do for christ will last.
