Women’s History Month Celebration & Local Hero Awards Ceremony March 22nd
Practicing attorney-turned-social entrepreneur Dr. Raye Mitchell is excited to announce KQED and its long-time partner Wells Fargo have selected her as a “Local Hero,” identifying Mitchell as one who has demonstrated leadership and strong commitment to community service in the Bay Area. Dr. Raye is founder of The New Reality Foundation, and founder and CEO of the acclaimed G.U.R.L.S. ROCK Leadership Program.
As KQED proudly celebrates the richness and diversity of the greater San Francisco Bay Area heritage, in March, it commemorates Women’s History Month. From 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2011, KQED and Wells Fargo will host a Women’s History Month celebration and Local Hero awards ceremony at KQED studios, 2601 Mariposa Street in San Francisco. Also named among KQED’s 2012 Women’s History Month Local Heroes are: Rhodessa Jones, Co-artistic Director of Cultural Odyssey; Marily Mondejar, President of the Filipina Women’s Network; and Kemba Shakur, Executive Director of Urban Releaf.
Throughout the month of March, KQED Public TV 9 and Public Radio 88.5 FM have scheduled a special lineup of programs focused on themes and issues related to women.
